"My motivation to take on this position is rooted in three key areas: my awareness and acknowledgement of issues that plague the Native Hawaiian and local communities here on Hawai’i Island, my lifelong passion for people and commitment to leaving others better than I found them, and my desire to procure the necessary skills and qualities of a respected Native Hawaiian leader in the modern world."
"I envision a Hawaiʻi that is not reliant on a boat shipment, a Hawaiʻi where the communities build each other up, a place where poverty is few and far between, and where everyone is ʻohana. With a strong emphasis on educating youth we could return to a time when Hawaiʻi was one of the most educated places in the world, in turn, creating a more vibrant Hawaiʻi. I fully believe we have the resources to achieve these goals, especially if we all work together."
David’s motivation for working with Vibrant Hawaiʻi stems from his passion for working with youth. For the past year and a half, David has worked with Queen Liliʻuokalani Trust, assisting directly with underprivileged Hawaiian youth. To further his work with youth, for the betterment of his community, and to better prepare him for his future career as an educator, he is eager to begin working with Vibrant Hawaiʻi.
"A key part of my fellowship is bringing the community's ideas into fruition and to help them become aware that they ʻget chanceʻ. My purpose is to co-create an environment where youth know that they belong, that they play a big role in our future of a thriving community, and they understand that they ʻget choiceʻ."

“The deficit narratives that plague our island home have lasting and generational effects that not only affect how the world sees us, but more importantly, how we see ourselves. My mission in life is to reeducate the world on the vibrancy of Hawaiʻi; its music, culture, traditions, and people. We cannot reverse the past, but we can determine the future - one that combines all of our strengths and resources is what we at Vibrant Hawaiʻi are working towards."
