Waiākea Peninsula Design Lab Report

In a collaboration led by Vibrant Hawaiʻi and Council Member Sue Lee Loy, a series of Waiākea Peninsula Design Labs took place on October 16 and November 16 of 2023.  Community members convened with the common goal of nurturing and revitalizing the Waiākea Peninsula.

With the utilization of the Asset Based Community Development framework, the diverse group of stakeholders shared moʻolelo of place, childhood memories, hopes for the future, and innovative ideas for revitalization and restoration. Want to get involved? The Waiākea Peninsula report provides resources to support actions that contribute to stewardship, Hawaiian culture revitalization, and building back a strong sense of community for the peninsula. In your review of the report, be sure to enjoy "Common Ground" - a song written and performed by Hawaiʻi Island artist Ninamarie Bell during the second and third Design Lab as a reflection of participant voices and sentiments.
