In our recent September 19, 2024 Housing Coalition meeting, we were able to hear from Beth Thoma Robinson and Whitney Harvey who have been longtime members of the Housing Coalition. As members of the North Kohala Affordable Housing Group, these key speakers talked about their contributions to revive the Kohala Community Land Trust that was originally created by the 2000 Kohala Reunion's housing task force.
The Kohala Community Land Trust is focused on “Keeping Kohala land and businesses in Kohala hands forever”. Community land trusts (CLTs) are non-profits that buy and own real estate and intend to keep land within community control for the overall benefit of the community. Kohala Community Land Trust intends to not only assist within the parameters of affordable housing, but create stability for the families and members of the Kohala community.
We encourage you to take part in Kohala Community Land Trust through donations of funds and properties. North Kohala residents can sign up to become members and those living outside of North Kohala are encouraged to join as supporting non-resident members. Member dues include a $20 fee during the first Annual Meeting in January 2025.
