One Nation, One Project

Hawaiʻi Island - Vibrant Hawaiʻi is thrilled to announce the culmination of a year-long artist fellowship with community-based showcases taking place throughout Hawaiʻi island on Saturday, July 27, 2024.

The fellowship was created with support from One Nation One Project, a national initiative designed to show how participation in the arts leads to healthier people and communities.

Eleven artists whose work represents a variety of disciplines and districts on Hawaiʻi island were chosen for the fellowship out of a pool of more than 100. For the past year, they have been forging relationships in their own communities, creating their unique art, and attending coaching and training sessions to learn how to better operate their creative and cultural entrepreneurial businesses.

On July 27th, these fellows will exhibit the culmination of their year-long work through showcases held across Hawaiʻi Island. All events are open to the public and include visual arts, natural fiber weavings, devised theater, music performances and workshops in kapa, community-created quilting, and writing among others. Showcase locations include Hilo, Pāhoa, Kaʻawaloa, Waimea, Kailua-Kona, Kealakekua (Kainaliu-Town), Mountain View and Volcano.

With local artists leading community-based projects, these public art works will provide a chance to dance, sing, draw and create together – spurring joy and social bonding at a time of extreme social polarization.
